Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, is offering a helping hand to the residents of Flint, reports CBS News.
Franklin is set to provide free hotel rooms to up to 50 people at the Holiday Inn in Southfield. The offer also includes a donation of food and beverages to those in need.
The singer, who was raised in Detroit, said that those who have been effected by the toxic water crisis should “hang in there.”
“Detroiters usually come to the aid of Detroiters—and Flint is certainly regarded as Detroit.”
Residents will be pre-screened to receive aid at New Bethel Baptist Church, which was led by Franklin’s late father, Rev. C.L. Franklin.
