Back in February, an anti-abortion billboard in New York City caused an uproar when it unfairly targeted African-Americans and featured a 6-year-old Black girl with some disturbing copy. Just days later, after coming under fire, it was removed by Lamar Advertising.
Anissa Fraser’s face became synonymous with a message that her mother isn’t proud of. Tricia Fraser told MyFoxNY.com, “I would never endorse something like that. Especially with my child’s image.”
Yesterday, the frustrated mother filed a defamation lawsuit against the company, according to BND.com. Fraser maintains the ad was “defamatory, unauthorized and offensive.”
It’s important to keep in mind that Lamar Advertising had every right to use the image, but was not allowed to use it in a defamatory fashion. A judge will ultimately decide if it’s defamatory or not.
