Nobody ever accused Chicago politicians of being country bumpkins. In fact, many have called them city slickers. Despite his many troubles, embattled Governor Rod Blagojevich on Tuesday named Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris, a Black political pioneer, to Barack Obama’s Senate seat. A keen move, say many, because it puts the governor’s critics in a tough  position of trying to stop him from picking the nation’s only African-American senator. Several weeks ago, the governor was arrested for allegedly trying to sell Barack Obama’s Senate seat to the highest bidder. Obama said he was disappointed that Blagojevich ignored Democrats who warned the governor against appointing a successor to his Senate seat.
