Tamera opens up more than ever before.
You can’t tell Tamera Mowry she’s not on top. The proof is everywhere.
She and her sister’s debut season of “Tia and Tamera”, in which she executive produces and stars in with sister Tia Mowry-Hardrict, broke reality TV records and has already been picked up for a second season.
Her marriage is off to an excellent start, bringing her more joy than she says she can even handle, and she’s kicked her acting career back into full gear.
The busy newlywed even has a brand new nephew, Cree, sister Tia’s newborn son, to adore.
Last we spoke with Tamera, she and new husband FOX new’s reporter Adam Housley were just moving in together and the show hadn’t premiered yet.
Now, with so much to be thankful for, we thought we’d check in with Tamera to find out what life is like now that she’s starring on a hit show and completely settled in with the man of her dreams.
ESSENCE.COM: What’s different now that you and Adam are all settled in? Have you stopped doing certain things?
TAMERA MOWRY-HOUSLEY: I just noticed that — yes! I used to sing at the top of my lungs, not just in the shower, but all through the house. I find that I still get to do it in the morning because with Adam’s job he gets up at like the crack of dawn, so I still have my morning time, which I think is great. But towards the evening, winding down, I find myself doing things like cooking more. We’ve been married almost five months. Now that we’re married, I realize I’m like the old-school traditional wife. I aspire to be that. Nobody really taught me that, it’s not Adam breathing down my neck telling me he wants me to cook this or clean that – he’s actually the opposite – but I find myself wanting to be that and it’s exhausting. I want to wash his clothes and do things for him. I love to serve. It makes me happy. What’s so great about Adam is that we have a 50/50 marriage. He would never let me do that all the time.
ESSENCE.COM: What about the traditional idea that the wife has to be super-sexy for her husband. Is that something you believe in as well?
TAMERA: [Laughing hysterically] I’m working on that. It’s funny that you’re saying that. I want to be the sexy wife. When you get married something really clicks in your head… I really want to be that sexy, sexy wife.
With Adam’s work life kind of increasing and mine increasing, I now understand that you have to find the time to do this stuff. We both just get home and we crash. I’ve been trying. I am the type of girl, honestly, that will just try and fail. I’m a goofball and I’m so happy Adam loves me that way. A lot of my bridesmaids bought me tons of lingerie. I don’t have to go to a lingerie store probably for two years — that’s how much lingerie I have. I just bought a lingerie cabinet and it’s so beautiful, so sexy, and so delicate. It’s vintage. But, I haven’t used it. I find myself intimidated by it. I don’t know what to do. Okay, so this strap goes there? What? It looks so much more difficult than just showing up naked. Adam ends up taking it off anyway.
That’s what I mean by I’m working on it. I‘m intimidated by the lingerie… Yes, there’s this pressure to be a sexy wife, but again, my husband loves me for me. That’s what makes him the one. He thinks I’m sexy when I walk out the shower and my hair kind of busted, or even when I just wake up. I never feel the need to put a show on for him, but I know men like that, so don’t worry, I will.
ESSENCE.COM: Is there something you learned from watching yourself on TV, anything you wish had gone differently?
TAMERA: With Tia, I’ve learned that I could have been more considerate to the fact that every day Tia was feeling different during her pregnancy. It changes each day. The reason I wanted Tia to be such a big part of my wedding is because she didn’t have to lift a finger. I didn’t want her to do anything because she was pregnant, and she didn’t have to. My best friend did everything. So it was really important for me to have her at least at my bachelorette and bridal shower.
What the show didn’t capture is that I saw her doing things. Tia went to London when she was pregnant. Tia went to Chicago. She got around. Tia went to premieres. She was promoting her show. She was very active and she was moving around so in my eyes I didn’t think that it would be a problem if I wanted her to come to my bachelorette because we were only going to Santa Barbara. But what I didn’t understand was that when you’re pregnant you can feel different every single day.
Also I learned, Tamera, come on, you don’t have to cry at everything. Everybody handles their stress differently. Some people drink. Some people smoke. Some people hit walls. I cry. I cry under pressure. I’ve learned, honestly, to be stronger by watching the show.
ESSENCE.COM: It was so refreshing to see that you and Tia aren’t all smiles. Sisters can get into it.
TAMERA: Yes, it shows that we’re real people and we’re real sisters. I know so many sisters who banter back and forth like that and I think that because we’re positive people think we’re maybe these robots, like we’re almost perfect. Because we’re positive, people think we’re perfect. Positivity doesn’t equal perfection at all. We choose to be positive but that doesn’t mean that we don’t have our hang-ups. Honestly, by watching the show, and me being able to see where Tia comes from and Tia getting a chance to see where I’m coming from has actually helped our relationship.
ESSENCE.COM: Is there a baby coming soon for you and Adam, now that you’re so in love with Cree?
TAMERA: Oh definitely. I love children. I eventually want to have three so Adam and I have to get to it. We do want to focus on our marriage right now because we’re enjoying it so much. I enjoy going out as a married woman now. I just love going down the street and instead of saying this is my boyfriend I say, “this is my husband”. It’s different. It’s a security that you didn’t have before, that’s the only way I can describe it. A security within and you know that this person isn’t going anywhere and vice versa.
In two years we’re definitely going to start thinking about it. I can’t wait to see our little baby. I really can’t. I can’t wait to see how he or she is going to mesh with both of us. It’s just awesome to look at Cree and to see Cory and to see Tia in this one person. There’s not one day that goes by that I do not wish I could just hold him. Oh, he’s just so precious.
Be sure to catch the season finale of “Tia and Tamera” tonight at 9pm EDT on Style network.
