Last night’s 9th Annual BET Awards show was a celebration of the life and legacy of pop icon Michael Jackson. New Edition opened the show with a Jackson 5 medley.
Host Jamie Foxx kicked off the show with a hilarious bit dedicated to the King of Pop.
Beyoncé wowed the crowd with a performance of “Ava Maria.” B took home awards for Best Female Artist and Video of the Year for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).”
Keyshia Cole and Monica were in the building. The two performed “Trust,” a cut off Cole’s “A Different Me.”
Keri Hilson reacts after winning the award for Best New Artist. The ATL singer-songwriter rocked a solid performance of “Knock You Down” and closed out her set with a nod to MJ.
Mary Mary and Queen Latifah rocked the house with an uplifting performance.
Ciara works a haute Michael Jackson-inspired jacket as she makes her way inside the BET Awards. The ATL native sung Michael’s touching anthem “Heal the World.”
Surprise guest Jay-Z ripped through his new joint “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-tune).” Look for “Blueprint 3” to do big things when it drops September 11.
Joe Jackson was on hand to represent the Jacksons. Janet later came out to say a few words on behalf of the family: “Michael may have been a pop icon to all of you, but to us he was our brother, and we miss him.”
Tyra Banks presents LeBron James with the Best Athlete award. The NBA star sent his condolences to the Jackson family during his acceptance speech.
