#BlackGirlMagic: This 11-Year-Old Designer Made History At New York Fashion Week
By Crystal Tate · Updated October 26, 2020

Kheris Rogers may not even be a teenager yet, but she’s already taking the fashion world by storm. Earlier this week, the 11-year-old designer debuted her fashion line at Harlem Fashion Week at the Museum of the City of New York.

On her Instagram, Rogers said, “I just made history as #NYFW youngest fashion designer EVER! I am only 11 years old and made it to the runway while encouraging people to love their skin.”

I just made history as #NYFW youngest fashion designer EVER! I am only 11 years old and made it to the runway while encouraging people to love their skin. Thank you all for your support! Keep Flexin' In Your Complexion 👑 #flexininmycomplexion #blackgirlmagic #melaninpoppin #kherisrogers

After being bullied for the color of her skin, Rogers decided to create her Flexin’ In My Complexion line. In an interview with Refinery29, Rogers further explained her inspiration for the line: “The other kids did not want to play with me or be my friend because of how dark my skin was,” said Rogers. “Going through this inspired me to begin Flexin’ In My Complexion, because black comes in so many shades and they all are beautiful.”

Okay ladies now let's get in formation! Harlem Fashion Week at New York Fashion Week was a blast! #NYFW #flexininmycomplexion #kherisrogers #harlemfw

Rogers even has a couple of celebrity supporters of her line including actress Lupita Nyong’o and singer Alicia Keys.

Thank you SO much @lupitanyongo for supporting Flexin' In My Complexion! Beauty has NO shade. What is on the inside is what makes you beautiful 💕 #flexininmycomplexion #blackgirlmagic #kherisrogers

Rogers further told Refinery29, “I am just glad that I am able to inspire others that it does not matter how old you are. It is never too early or late to chase your dreams and to always stand up for what you believe in.” Such wise words of wisdom from a young entrepreneur!

Rogers’ Flexin’ In My Complexion line includes t-shirts, tanks and even baby bibs. Shop the line here.
