Teresa and Marcus McClinton fell for each other during their college years at University of Kentucky. After taking their love off campus and into the real world, the lovebirds traveled to Cancun, Mexico to go all the way. They pledged to travel through the sands of time together on July 11, 2009.
Originally Teresa had her heart set on another dress with a sweetheart neckline, but she fell in love with this Mori Lee dress with jewels, ruching and a train.
Teresa favored soft curls, natural make-up and simple jewelry for her beachside nuptials.
Teresa can’t get enough of her new hubby Marcus.
“I just never wanted to be away from him so I had to marry him,” she giggles.
The bride and groom found all of the outfits for the wedding, from the wedding gown to the bridesmaids dresses to the tuxedo at Rebecca’s Wedding Boutique in Louisville. The Tiffany blue and coral color theme draws on the tropical atmosphere of their coastal wedding.
Marcus and his groomsmen coordinated well with Teresa’s bridesmaids. All of the guys in the wedding party wore Tiffany blue vests except for his best man whose vest was a light coral.
Marcus swooned over his wife-to-be while she was transported to the aisle in a horse and carriage.
“It was like slow motion,” he says. “I would do that again any time.”
The young couple got their rings from Zales. Both of the of the newlyweds’ wedding rings are white gold with a row of diamonds across the front.
The new husband and wife both agree that they want to have a family.
Teresa’s a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Two friends from her sorority came down to watch their sister get swept off her feet.
“I think we’re a good mix,” the new wife says. “I’m pretty high strung and he’s pretty laid back.”
Marcus says Teresa was the prettiest girl on campus. He was determined to make her his.
Teresa had two maids of honor, but she would have had four if two more of the friends she grew up with had made the trip. Marcus’s best man was his college football teammate.
The newlyweds give Marcus’s grandfather two big kisses on the cheeks.
Teresa and Marcus poured different colored sand into a vase to signify the joining of their lives.
The new couple held each other tight and swayed to “All My Life” by KC and JoJo for their first dance.
Teresa and Marcus decided to get married in Mexico after their more traditional Kentucky wedding idea started getting too crazy.
“Our resources were getting stretched and the guest list was growing to around 300 people,” Teresa says. “I decided to have the wedding in Cancun, where just the people who really wanted to be there would come.”
These young newlyweds are both 24 and they’re so excited about growing old together.
“I’m looking forward to making a bigger life for our children and for ourselves and helping our family together,” Teresa says.
“I’m looking forward to getting old and grey with Teresa,” Marcus laughs. “We’re already silly now. I know we’re gonna be silly when we’re old.”
