Candace first met her new husband Mike in their high school choir group. They became the best of friends and remained as so through their college years. The chemistry between them was undeniable, and the pair eventually gave love a real chance. It was the right call. On February 25, 2012 they were married in Jackson, Mississippi. Share their love!
For her wedding shoes Candace wanted to find a pair that complimented her vintage wedding theme. The brooches on her pretty blush pumps were the perfect touch.
On her big day, Candace held an all white bouquet filled with lovely vandela roses.
Candace added a touch of blue beneath her shoes which made for a sweet sentiment and a memorable photo opp.
We’re just nuts about Candace’s cathedral-length veil.
“The groom and groomsmen wore vintage grey suits and custom ties and bow ties from The Tie Bar,” says Candace. A textured tie is a great way to add a vintage-inspired element to your groom’s getup without a lot of fuss.
The bridesmaids model their blush colored Watters evening gowns and show off their custom tote bags — a gift from the bride.

Candace’s stunning a-line gown was designed by Mori Lee. “It was difficult for me at first because I didn’t know how to distinguish a pretty gown from THE gown,” she says. “I bought magazines galore and circled and folded pages until my fingers were numb.”
The ladies kept things stylish, with gorgeous ruffled detailing on the back of their gowns and pretty clutch bags in their hands.
Candace chose all white ball gowns paired with pretty pearls for her flower girls’ style. (So sweet!)
Want to achieve vintage excellence on your wedding day? The fur shrug is always a nostalgic choice and perfect for pictures. Candace wore her late grandmother’s mink stole and purse as her “something old” and to keep her memory close.
“I knew Michael was ‘The One’ the day we were sitting on his couch talking,” says Candace. “I always knew that he was the best friend a girl could ever ask for, but in that moment I realized that the perfect man had always been right there before my eyes. We shared so much in common, but more than that, he loves my daughter like she is his own.”
“We traveled around downtown Jackson to several historic places, including our reception venue, to take our wedding photos,” Candace tells us.
Candace tells us she had Celeste Gregory of Atlanta-based floral business Ambience Decor to thank for her lovely wedding day flower arrangements. She really worked their all-white florals well.
The bridal party traveled throughout the day in style, catching a ride on The Fondren Express trolley over to the Historic Fairview Inn in Jackson.
“We had a traditional ceremony at Black’s Chapel, M.B., where Michael serves as an organist,” says Candace.

Here comes the bride looking stunning on the arm of her proud dad. Candace’s husband-to-be serenaded her as she walked down the aisle. There could not have been a dry eye in the house. Once she made it to him, local soloists took over so they could share vows.
Candace and Micheal’s ceremony began at 5 p.m. Here we see the fun-loving couple at the altar wearing matching smiles.
The Jackson String Quartet played classical selections during the couple’s ceremony.
The newlyweds jump the broom, officially sweeping away the old and bringing in the new.
“During the ceremony we honored our deceased grandparents and my uncle, who had passed just 32 days before our wedding,” Candace shares.
While the new Mr. and Mrs. Mayberry enjoyed their first moments together as husband and wife, guests left the church and headed to the cocktail hour.
“We were on a pretty strict budget,” says Candace. “We tried our best to stick to it. We were juggling a lot of things at the same time that we were planning, so it was hard. With prayer and an amazing planner we pulled it off.”
Mr. and Mrs. Mayberry made their big ceremony getaway in this vintage 1956 Ford Fairline with custom signage on the back.
“Our wedding favors were homemade oatmeal raisin cookies baked by my grandmother and sweet potato cake baked by my mom,” says Candace. “I chose those as favors because I wanted to keep with my vintage theme while also making our guests feel right at home.”
After the cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, guests enjoyed a sit down dinner with the newlyweds. We’re absolutely in love with the couples pretty pink tabletop color palette.
Custom seating cards with a gorgeous vintage design motif were waiting for guests as they arrived to their reception tables.
Jazz guitarist Jeffrey Smith entertained guests during the cocktail hour and DJ Java Chapman spun tunes during the reception. “During our first dance Michael was singing in my ear,” Candace tells us. “No one knew but somehow the photographer caught it.”
In keeping with their vintage glam theme, the couple’s cake was quite a scene stealer, with it’s chic all white palette and pretty feathered topper. Inside was lemon and strawberry with cream cheese icing.
Candace and Michael chose to make a romantic statement by filling glass vases with floating cymbidium orchids, amelia roses, hydrangeas, and tulips. A truly lovely touch.
De’ Whitted of Weddings By Day helped the couple work wonders with their wedding budget. “I would be on the phone for hours finding ways to ‘cut and paste’ decor, gift ideas, stationery, etc,” says Candace. “She would always send me cost effective ways to achieve the same look I had envisioned. Because her company has so may arms, we were able to turn water into wine.”
“Anyone who knows me knows that I love antebellum homes,” says Candace. “I always have. And, as a southern girl, I thought no other venue would be fitting like an antebellum home.”
Proud Kappa Alpha Psi member Michael showed off his love for his Greek fraternity with a custom groom’s cake.
“I wanted the venue to feel very intimate, as if the reception was set in our home,” says Candace.
“At the reception, Michael and I also included serenades from our respective Greek lettered organizations,” says Candace, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
It’s so nice to see how many of Candace and Micheal’s fraternity brothers and sorority sisters came to help them celebrate their union.

The happy couple toasts their big moment and seal it with a kiss.
“After months of planning, and all of the phone calls and meetings, I was truly amazed and how gorgeous everything turned out,” says Candace. “Every flower, place card, crystal, candle, and really every detail was simply beautiful.”
