I joined Google’s popular dating site OKCupid.com a little over a month ago in an attempt to shed my inner shy girl and become more active in the choices I make when it comes to dating. I wanted to choose the men I date, instead of always being chosen. I’ve mentioned that
I have no game. So, mustering up the courage to say “Hey” to a guy or trying to find the right balance or mystery, humor and flirtation for my messages has been a challenge, but one that I’ve enjoyed so far. I decided I’m ready for the next step — going from the computer screen to a face-to-face meeting. In a recent post, I introduced you to
Adrian, a history buff, who like me is infatuated with Caribbean and Latin American culture and politics. I started to get a little discouraged when Adrian didn’t reply to my last e-mail for a long time. Granted, I work in online journalism so my idea of a long time is thirty minutes. I smiled wide when he finally checked back in last week. He told me a little bit about his travels and where his work had taken him, which made me even more interested in getting to know him. “Enough of this back and forth already!” I thought, “I want to meet this guy.” In an effort to move things along, I gave him my phone number. Hopefully, he won’t wait two weeks before using it. Not putting all of my eggs in one basket, I’ve made plans with another man to go on a long bike ride across New York City boroughs in search of warm, cheap, hidden Caribbean treats. And of course, there is one guy that I haven’t tried to move things along with, because I’m just too damned nervous. He’s been out of town for a while and now that he’s back, I’d really like to see him in person. The coffee shop near my apartment is showing a movie on Wednesday night. I know that the online dating expert said coffee during the daytime first, but what do you think? Should I ask him to join me?
Ladies, tell me what to do and I’ll follow your cue.
