Do Right Men 2007: Adewale Ogunleye

DO Right Men 2007: Adewale Ogunleye
By · Updated October 30, 2020

HOME BASE: Brooklyn
PROFESSION: Chicago Bears defensive end
DOING RIGHT: Some may only know this gridiron guy for his fast moves on the field. Few would guess that the down-to-earth Ogunleye is a descendant of African royalty. “My grandfather was king of Emure and so was his father before him,” says Ogunleye, the Brooklyn-born son of Nigerian immigrants. “It’s part of me, but I don’t bring it up to folks. It starts to take on a whole Eddie Murphy/Coming to America cliché.” What does interest Ogunleye is giving back, which is why he created Goal Power, an organization that encourages young people to think beyond sports careers on the field. “Why be a player when you can be an owner?” he asks.
