The day Nate, a pharmaceutical technician from Maryland, decided to reach out to a beautiful woman he saw on MySpace, Kim, an HR manager from Georgia, both of their lives would be forever changed.
Kim and Nate complemented each other so well from the beginning that she brought him home for Easter dinner with her family a few days after their first “real date.” They’d known one another for months, and used email and phone calls to really learn each others’ hearts, but when they finally came face to face, both of them knew there was no turning back.
During her surprise birthday proposal, Nate lured Kim into their home by taking advantage of her love for their two adorable dogs. He told her they’d made a mess inside the house and she’d have to run in and help clean it up before going to dinner. When Kim rushed in, instead of a dirty carpet she found a living room filled with her closest friends and family from Michigan, Georgia, and New York.
Kim adored every single aspect of her surprise party proposal, but there was one moment that stood out above the rest. “When he turned to my daughter and got on his knee and pulled out a necklace and said ‘will you be my step daughter,’ I knew it was love.”
“She was stunned at first and was totally caught off-guard,” Nate tells us about Kim’s reaction to his heartfelt surprise proposal. “I had to ask her a few times if she would marry me because she was at a loss for words.”
We love that Nate and Kim hired a photographer to capture their sweet love on the go for their engagement shoot in Washington D.C. One look at these photos and it’s not hard to tell just how much the happy couple enjoy each others’ company.
Nate knew early on that Kim could be his wife; she understood him and they vibed perfectly. “Kim was easy to talk to and down to earth like myself,” he tells us. “After a weekend of spending hours with her and her family, I knew she had potential to be The One.”
“When Nate expressed the unconditional acceptance of my daughter in his life and I noticed she loved him just as much as I did, I was certain he was The One for me,” says Kim.
How did long-distance lovers Nate and Kim manage to strengthen their bond while living in different states? Commitment and communication. “Because we lived so far apart, we made it a point to take trips together,” she says. “Whether it was meeting in a city halfway or flying off to an island, we spent a lot of fun quality time together. We also talked a lot and really got to know each other on a different level.”
“The outpouring of love and support from our family and friends has been invaluable,” says Kim. “Planning a wedding is not really my thing, but it has been fun getting to do all of this with Nate.”
