How did you meet your man?
I met Dap at his housewarming party, about five minutes from my house. One of my girlfriends knew his older brother, who he had bought the house with, so I tagged along with her. Dap’s first interaction with me was him offering me a spoon after he caught me eating rice with my hands. Why I wasn’t embarrassed, I will never know. All I remember is telling another girlfriend of mine, “He has nice skin, huh?” Later that night, we danced to Bobby Valentino’s “Tell Me” before heading outside to talk in quiet in the backyard. By the end of the night, he asked for my number, but didn’t have his phone. (He had put it aside while we were dancing.) So I took his instead. And, I’m pretty sure he thought I’d never use it, but obviously, I did.
Weirdest date you’ve ever been on?
Our very second date – Dap invited me over to his place to have some of his famous “Ragin’ Cajun” spaghetti. We sat down to eat on his living room floor. The food was great, but the spaghetti was so spicy that I started to choke. I was trying to be cute and play it cool, but my eyes were watering like crazy, and I just couldn’t stop coughing. He felt so bad he kept giving me tons of garlic bread and water to stop the burning. Finally, dinner was over and it was time for a movie to end the night. Dap put on Ocean’s 13, sat on the far side of the couch and fell asleep! I had absolutely no plans on continuing with this guy, but halfway home, I got a call from him apologizing for the entire evening and especially for falling asleep on me. He promised to make it up to me if I gave him another chance. I’m so happy I did. We haven’t had another “weird” date since.
Sweetest thing he’s ever done?
Plan an amazing six month anniversary for us. Before we got together, we would always talk about never making it to six months because we thought we were better off as friends. When we actually made it that long, he went all out. He brought flowers to my job, asked my boss if I could leave work early, let me wear a pretty dress and took me to a super nice restaurant. He even wore a suit!
How did he pop the question?
He caught me completely off guard. I didn’t even have my just-in-case manicure. I walked in our house and thought someone had broke in because the lights and music were on. He had candles and rose petals everywhere, champagne for the two of us and Luther’s “House Is Not A Home” playing in the background. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was so in shock, it took me a second to answer. But of course, I said yes. Our families were waiting outside our door the entire time. It was very cute and exciting.
