No man is more synonymous with the term sexy male model than Tyson Beckford. At 40 he’s still turning heads, young and old, with his jaw-dropping physique.
Discovered on the streets of NYC in 1992, Tyson says modeling saved him from going down the wrong path.“I had so much energy and I started doing crime. …I had already started visiting the local jails at 15,” he admits.
“That’s why most of the time I never have a body guard,” Tyson says. “Because I’m a little bad ass. People just don’t know because I kind of put that behind me.”
This smooth operator knows his way around a motor and can often be found riding through NYC on one of his motorbikes. “I’ve been building motorcycles since I was little,” the “Biker Boyz” star told us.
We remember when Tyson Beckford began modeling for Ralph Lauren, don’t we ladies? All of a sudden the young, strapping young man with sexy eyes became a household name.
“What we did was groundbreaking,” Tyson says of the Ralph Lauren campaign. “No Black model had done that before. Not Naomi. Not Iman. That just put me in a whole other atmosphere.”
“I’m always like OK, what’s next?” he says. “I definitely feel a lot of pressure to do something amazing every time.” Tyson, you always deliver.
It’s not always easy being so handsome. Tyson admits to wanting more respect for his craft as an actor and model, instead of always being considered “the man candy.”
“There’s no way that in the beginning of our careers we said, ‘Man, I’m gonna get off this train and try to be a sex symbol,’” he says. We just can’t help but want your body, Tyson.
Tyson recently strayed from the eye candy route to star in a Great Depression-era period piece called “King of the Evening,” about a young man recently released from jail.
“It definitely took me out of my element because I know people didn’t see this coming.” Tyson says of “Kings.” “They were expecting me to be some love interest.” We’d like you to be our love interest, Tyson.
Tyson likes to keep his dating life private, but he admits that it’s difficult. “Every time they see me talking to another woman the press is like, ‘This is his new girl,’” he complains. “Stories get twisted all the time.”
“I’m a fool when I’m on set,” Tyson says. “Everybody beware because I’m a practical joker. So [the woman I’m with] definitely has to have a sense of humor and she’s got to be able to deal with my goofiness.”
“I always seem to find the girl that lives far away and it sucks,” Tyson pouts. “Other people get to walk and hold hands and I’m like man, I gotta get on Skype.” When can we schedule a video chat?
“I definitely have talked marriage before. My son’s mother and I were together for almost 10 years,” he reveals. “I asked her dad and he said no and she said no so that kind of discouraged me from marriage.”
But Tyson’s not planning on being a bachelor forever. “I figure the current relationship or the next relationship I’m in will probably be my last one because I’m getting up there now.”
Tyson says when he’s in a relationship he’s “very caught up in it.” Well we’ve been head over heels for him for 18 years.
“I just feel like I have an opportunity to enjoy life,” Tyson says. We just want to enjoy it with you, boo. Have a happy and healthy birthday Tyson!
