Plastic surgeon Aisha, 31, and retired football player JB, 39, first noticed each other at the bar in a jazz club. He was filling in for someone, and she had reluctantly decided to go out with a friend at the last minute, They were supposed to meet that night, and when they did, love instantly took hold. On October 6, 2012, after seven years together, they were married in a beautiful destination wedding at the Roockhouse Hotel & Spa in Negril, Jamaica. Share their love!
“I made my own save the date postcards,” says Aisha. “I designed and assembled my passport invitations with RSVP boarding passes. I even doubled the luggage tag favors as seating cards.”
The bride wore her mother’s engagement ring as her “something old,” her brand new Jimmy Choos as her “something new, “ a “borrowed” bracelet from her Matron of Honor and a blue feather on her garter belt to count as “something blue.”
Aisha trusted her makeup stylist 100 percent when it came time to chose a natural, yet elegant, look for her wedding day.
Aisha’s wedding gown was designed by Marisa. “I knew that I wanted a mermaid style so I had an idea in my head,” she says. “I found it at the third store that I went to. The search wasn’t that hard.” This has to be the loveliest dress portrait we’ve ever featured in Bridal Bliss, hands down.
“After researching several cliff top resorts, I found Rockhouse Hotel & Spa and visited them in February,” explains Aisha. “It’s a small boutique hotel on the cliffs of Negril with only 34 rooms. The natural beauty of the resort sealed the deal.”
“I could never say no to JB’s million-dollar smile,” explains Aisha. “He is incredibly funny and does an excellent job of keeping me grounded by reminding me of what’s really important in life.”
“The humidity in Jamaica wouldn’t allow for me to wear my hair straight,” says Aisha. “My stylist and I tried several styles and had some backups in case of emergency. I wanted a sleek elegant style that was easy to manage.”
Aisha’s bridesmaids lend a helping hand as she slips into her gorgeous mermaid gown.
“I knew my dress was the one because it was light, very pretty, but elegant and understated,” says Aisha. “I absolutely loved the asymmetric neckline. That was what sold it for me.”
The groom donned a beach formal look from Men’s Warehouse, while the groomsmen stepped into smooth styles from designer Jos A. Bank. “We wanted the groomsmen to have a relaxed look so we chose short sleeved linen shirts and linen khaki pants,” explains Aisha.
Aisha carried a lovely bouquet of orange Asiatic lilies mixed with pops of green hydrangeas, green hypericum berries, white dendrobium orchids and white roses.
Two of JB’s former teammates, his two nephews, and a longtime friend all served as groomsmen to have his back on the big day.
“I wore an ivory waltz length veil with a ribbon edge that I ordered from Etsy.com,” says Aisha. “I also had a beautiful garter made.”
The bride’s cousin, Danielle Shimfarr from Spoiled Studio Salons in Houston, TX, flew down to Jamaica just to help style the bridal party’s hair and makeup. “She mad us look stunning,” says Aisha.
Aisha’s big bridal splurge was a sexy pair of Jimmy Choo sandals. Smart choice!
Aisha’s wedding band matched her engagement ring perfectly. Aren’t they lovely?
“I knew JB was the one when he helped me shave the rest of my hair off while I was going through chemotherapy therapy for lymphoma and still told me that I was beautiful,” says Aisha “Loving him is easy, and everything just seems right when we’re together.”
“I wasn’t looking for love,” admits Aisha. “But, I’m so glad that we found each other because he has been a vital factor in my survival.”
Aisha pauses to take in the beauty of the day in this amazing portrait, captured by their photographer Lyle, of Scrole Vision Photography.
Aisha and JB decided on a destination wedding because they wanted a small, intimate wedding, and her family is from Jamaica. Choosing to wed there just made sense. “I decided to have the ceremony on the cliffs of Negril and not the beach because I still wanted the wedding to feel somewhat semi-formal and not too casual,” say the bride who chose a sunset ceremony.
“I got choked up and cried a little as I started walking down the aisle,” says Aisha. “But I managed to get it together. Then I cried again during our vows. He got a little choked up too. He tried to deny it, but I was looking into his eyes. He was definitely about to cry.”
Eighty-five guests were on hand to witness Aisha and JB become husband and wife, and they were all smiles.
“Instead of lighting a unity candle, we planted a unity plant with a planting ceremony,” explains Aisha. “A candle burns out, and I have yet to see anyone display a unity candle in their home. We planted seeds that we could bring back and plant in our house/garden. Our intent is to symbolically nourish our plant with the same love and attention that we plan to nourish our marriage with.”
The bride and groom were all smiles on their way back down the aisle, together for the first time as husband and wife.
“Having an evening ceremony was perfect,” says Aisha. “We got to enjoy the sunset as we took pictures, and the guests enjoyed their cocktails.”
The views from the cliffs where the couple held their wedding were absolutely spectacular.
In order to take full advantage of the beautiful outdoor setting, Aisha and JB chose to have both their ceremony and reception outdoors.
During their reception, the happy couple gave a shot out to Aisha’s Aunt Lizzie, who is 103 years old and attended both the ceremony and the entire reception. Way to go Aunt Lizzie!
For Aisha, dancing with her uncle Maggy on the dance floor was a true reception highlight. “He was the life of the party and he got low,” she says.
At the end of the night, the couple and their guests lit sky lanterns and sent them up into the air. How romantic?
Two days after their oceanfront “I dos,” the new Mr. and Mrs. Baron headed off for a little honeymoon fun in Montego Bay. Did you enjoy their romantic cliff-side wedding style?
