“I felt that Ken had it all together — he was a Christian, educated Black man, handsome, and had a good job,” says Crystal. “He also had a swag which I loved. I told people very early on that I thought he would be my husband.”
“One thing that we discussed is that we are both each others’ ‘twos,’ as God is really the center of our marriage and He is our number one,” says Crystal.
“Ken and I love to travel outside of the country,” Crystal recounts with delight. “A few of our favorite memories are riding the ferry to and having dinner on Granville Island in Vancouver. This was one of the most romantic experiences that we’ve enjoyed together.”
“Crystal had a certain presence about her that commanded my attention,” says Ken. “I must say I was rather captivated by her.”
“For Ken and I, distance was the biggest obstacle,” Crystal tells us. “Neither one of us are big talkers on the phone. It became difficult for us to maintain relevant communication because we were going through so many different experiences separately.”
“Ken and I had been talking on the phone every night since we met in Atlanta,” Crystal recalls. “I mean, we stayed up until two and three in the morning for hours on end.” How sweet!
Ken and Crystal lived separately for three years before Crystal moved to Atlanta. During that time, they really learned the ins and outs of their love by overcoming the distance with sweet gestures and true conversation.
Crystal thought a lot about why Ken was the man for her: “I thought about how much fun we have together. I thought about how he loved me through a time in my life when I was so unhappy and probably not much fun to be around. I thought about how much I wanted to make him happy and go through the joys and pains of life with him.”
