In just a few months LL Cool J will be the first hip-hop artist to be recognized by the Kennedy Center Honors. However, his wife Simone wanted to give him his flowers now for his musical achievements, so she did so with a backyard bash he won’t soon forget.
The party came as a total surprise for the iconic rapper, who was celebrated by his family and close celebrity friends.

Todd had no clue Here’s a huge THANK YOU to our family & friends for the that attended yesterday’s celebration, in honor of my husband’s esteemed Kennedy Center Honor AND THE AWARD GO TO #LLCOOL FOR HIS LIFETIME CONTRIBUTIONS TO AMERICAN CULTURE THROUGH PERFORMING ARTS,” Simone shared in a clip of LL Cool J walking into his surprise party.
Many celebrity friends came out to honor him, including Magic and Cookie Johnson, Samuel L Jackson, Tina Knowles Lawson, Laila Ali, Niecy Nash, Bill Bellamy, Judge Mathis and Lela Rochon.
