I think we can all agree that this has been the longest year ever, and it’s only February. It felt like there were 734 days in January (Okay, that may be a minor exaggeration) and everything that could’ve gone wrong seemed to happen all at once. Its been rough people, and I think we all could use a break from life right about now.
That’s why while most of my friends are preparing to enjoy a long weekend in some sunny paradise over the Presidents’ Day holiday, I’ve decided to skip traveling this year and instead indulge in some long overdue and much needed me time. Like most people, I’m not the best at self-care, so I’ve dedicated my long weekend to resting and recalibrating my mind (S/O to my amazing therapist #therapyforblackgirls) and of course, lounging around doing absolutely nothing for a change.
Whether it’s over a long weekend or just a few stolen hours in one day, if you’ve been looking for a way to unwind, check out these things that have me totally obsessed with indulging in some fun self-care.
Nothing sets an 'I'm in relaxation mode' party off like breaking out a nice plush and comfy robe. This classic robe from Parachute just looks soft, and the best part is it has pockets for your snacks.
Self-care is not just about relaxing your body, it's about relaxing your mind as well, and nothing does that like escaping into the pages of a good book. If you loved Tomi Adeyemi's debut novel Children of Blood and Bone, then you'll definitely want to get into the sequel, Children of Virtue and Vengence. I can't wait to start reading!
If you're like me, sleep is a luxury some nights, which means dull and tired-looking eyes in the morning and we can't have that. That's one of the reasons I love these eye gel masks from Patchology, not only do they help depuff and brighten your eyes, but the aromatherapy oils help elevate your mood as well.
Just because you're relaxing doesn't mean a girl doesn't have to eat. But since I have no intention of doing any actual cooking, popping a delicious meal from Gobble into the oven is right up my alley. Meal service companies like this one are also a great way to keep the stress of having to make dinner after a long day off your plate all year long. Thank me later.
A relaxing day at home means I can show my hair some love with a good wash and deep condition. But just because it's wash day doesn't mean I can't still be cute, and that's where these stylish Afrocentric bonnets from Regal Ivy come in.
Out of all my body parts, my feet definitely put in the most work. From all the walking I do to being stuffed in shoes all day, these babies need some love. As much as I would love to head to the nail salon, your girl is trying to save some coins this year, and these moisturizing gel socks help me maintain my cute feet in-between visits. I'll just slide them on for a few hours and let them work their magic while I read my book.
