Our tops tips for finding unbeatable honeymoon savings for two.
Start by looking for unbelievable deals online - We found ours on secretflying.com. This site finds great travel deals and immediately posts them. These unbelievable prices were too good to pass up. Two round-trip flights to the Bahamas: $595
Book an Airbnb! According to their website, Airbnb "connects people to unique travel experiences, at any price point, in more than 34,000 cities and 190 countries." We stayed at the Blue Marlin Villa, which we affectionately called “home” during our stay in the Bahamas. It was so romantic that it looked like it was taken from a Nicholas Sparks novel. 5-night stay at a Bahamian villa: $634
Research, research and more research. - Luckily we had a gracious host who provided us with extensive information of things to do in the Bahamas with varying prices. But since we looked up information about the island through their tour center we also had an idea of what we wanted to do. Sometimes our plans changed but we were never once bored.
Balance out eating at “home” and dining out- We made our breakfast most mornings and it was very pleasant. It was very important for us to eat outdoors which was made possible because of our villa's porch overlooking the lake. We went to a nearby grocery store and picked up a few items. Breakfast items, bottled water, snacks: $61
Get a resort day pass - Even though you are not staying at resort you can still feel like you are by purchasing a day pass. We were able to get a day pass from Meliá Nassau Beach Hotel giving us access to their beautiful beach, water activities and buffet. I'll let you do the math. Meliá Day Pass: Starting at $70 for two (Restaurants at Meliá are extra)
Take advantage of all the local food - While in the Bahamas we totally became one of the locals! We had so much conch but it didn't matter because they were so good! Every night we went out to the fish fry, the famous spot which includes a chain of restaurants that make the best fish with very flavorful side dishes. Some of the portions were so large that were able to share one appetizer and one entree plus the drinks. Restaurant excursions: $348
Book a tour - Basically, book any tour with food. We wanted to immerse ourselves in the culture and we definitely left feeling like Bahamians with all the information we received from the tours. We booked two tours that were just amazing . Tru Bahamain food tour which was a 3 hour walking tour that covered the history and fine cuisine the Bahamas had to offer. The next one was the Native Nassau tour which took place in Fort Charlotte. In this tour, food and history were infused with exciting games. The benefit for us for these two tours were that they both included food which helped us save more money and left us with happy bellies and a wealth of knowledge. Native Nassau Tour: $118 for two & Tru Bahamian Food Tour: $140 for two
Keep in mind that this is specifically for the Bahamas. You can, however, get an idea on how these simple methods can be used anywhere your heart desires. Staying at a resort has its perks but if you are looking to save a little cash and immerse yourself in the culture and become one of the locals, you can do so with an open mind and a willingness to travel differently. The point is to save money and not skip out on an adventure. For more of our travel adventures, visit WesandVeronica.com.
