Think of Mayday as your built-in S.O.S. Much like the universal distress signal – said 3 times over a radio – if you hit the Mayday button three times your family and friends will be notified that you’re in trouble and given your exact location. The app also notifies you if there is an emergency situation happening nearby so you can avoid the area. Coming soon, the app’s Overwatch feature will allow you to have certain family and friends watch over certain trips and locations and receive alerts if for any reason you stray from the itinerary.

Google Translate
One thing that scares women when it comes to solo travel is the fear that they won’t be able to communicate with the locals. Google Translate takes away that fear by putting the ability to translate between 103 languages at your finger tips. Need to read street or public transportation signs? Just point your camera at the sign and the app will translate the text instantly for 38 different languages. No wifi, no problem. Google Translate also lets you translate 59 different languages with no internet connection.

Tourlina
Let’s be real, traveling solo as a woman is much different than traveling solo as a man, and comes with its own set of challenges, including safety. Tourlina is an app for women only that connects travelers with one another before or during their travels. Plan an entire trip together, or simply plan to meet up somewhere for an excursion – it’s totally up to you. To keep things safe, Tourlina screens each new user and only allows communication between travelers once the users are verified.
