Seeing clumps of long shed hairs is something no one wants to experience. Though shedding is normal, there are methods to decrease it. My simple trick is: Black Tea rinsing! According to the American Hair Loss Association, the main culprit behind the hair loss process is a hormone by the name of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT shrinks hair follicles, making it impossible for healthy hair to survive. So you may be asking, why Black Tea? What’s so special about it? Caffeine has the ability to counteract the effects of DHT. According to, topical applications of caffeine block the damaging effects of DHT on hair follicles and stimulate the growth of new hair. RELATED: Get The Perfect Blowout While Transitioning The process is simple, I add 4-5 tea bags in a pot of water, bring it to a boil. The tea becomes potent when I let it sit until cool. I remove the bags. I pour the tea into a spray bottle then spray my scalp until fully saturated. I cover my hair with a plastic cap and let it sit for 45 minutes – 1 hour. I rinse my hair and follow up with my favourite deep conditioner. That’s it! Due to caffeine’s acidic nature and ability to remove DHT from the scalp, it reduces hair fall. Not only does Black Tea reduce my shedding, it also provides softness to my hair, volume and shine!
