My Selfie Journey: Tamika Lee

When Tamika Lee’s close friend told her she couldn’t wear weaves or braids in her wedding, Tamika was devastated. Braids were easy to manage and were her go to style for the past year. Tamika opted to straighten her healthy hair for the big event and the end result was all the proof she needed to remain chemical free. It was the shiniest and healthiest it looked in years. Here, she tells her journey.

Tamika’s Journey

My hair is…Natural.

I started my journey…During the summer of 2005. It was a complete accident and I had no intentions of being natural.

Tamika’s Journey

My current hair regimen consists of:

– Co-washing every two weeks

– Sulfate free shampoo once a month

– Deep conditioning twice a month

– Protein treatments once a month

– Daily LOC (liquid, oil, cream) method for moisture

– Trims every 5 months

My favorite hair products include:

KboEssentials Hair Pudding and Oil, The Mane Choice Natural Butter Cream, Organic Coconut Oil, Shea Moisture, and Alikay Naturals.

Tamika’s Journey

The secret to having healthy hair is… patience. A lot of naturals think that natural hair is stronger than chemically-altered hair when actually it is more fragile. So the more TLC and the less manipulation along with keeping your natural hair moisturized helps with obtaining and maintaining healthy natural hair.

My biggest hair challenge is… detangling. Because I am a low manipulation natural, it’s rather time consuming and challenging. Therefore, I use the curly girl method (detangling with conditioner and castor oil) to make my process less challenging.

Tamika’s Journey

I love my hair because… it allows me to express exactly who I am without using words. It has a mind of its own (which I love) and makes a lasting impression. I love my hair because I have so much versatility and I can live a BOLD life without regrets.

My hair crush is…MahoganyCurls. I LOVE her curls!!
