Deep Condition
Deep conditioner or hot oil enhances the experience. You can use olive oil, coconut oil, sweet almond oil—whatever kind you like! Your hair will absorb the moisture and be shiner for it.

Detangle

Decide if you’re detangling before or after your treatment. Some prefer to steam freshly shampooed, detangled hair. Some prefer to comb through after steaming, when the hair is slathered with conditioner. It’s a personal preference, both methods can be effective.

Plan to Relax

Your steam proves to be most beneficial if you indulge for 25 to 30 minutes. So sit back with your favorite book or magazine and enjoy the experience.

Use What You Have At Home

Use a steam machine or a hot towel and a plastic cap. There are some awesome at-home hair steaming devices on the market, but for ladies on a budget it can be just as easy to cover your head with a plastic cap and then a hot, damp towel.

Rinse With Cool Water

Rinsing with cool water closes your hair cuticles. At the end of your treatment, rinse with cool water to seal in all that fabulous moisture!
