About 3 and a half years ago, Lynn Whitfield stopped relaxing her hair for the second time.

The first time the veteran Hollywood actress went natural, she was a student at Howard University. Her tale of growing up with a relaxer before later transitioning to wearing her natural hair for the first time after being influenced by her HBCU college experiences and surroundings is a familiar one for many of us who have gone through a similar journey with our hair.

At 65 years old – after decades of relaxing her hair – Whitfield is yet again embracing her natural texture which she describes as “the waves of the ocean.”
