Hairstyle File: HGTV's Tanika Ray
By · August 19, 2011October 28, 2020
01
2002: The Big Chop

“In 2000, I was sick of my perm so I chopped off my hair to an inch. As it grew out, I finally got to see my curls and I loved them!

02
2003: Messy Chic

Tanika Ray rocked tousled, messy-on-purpose curls at Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Power 100 Breakfast.

03
2004: Happy to be Nappy

“It was so fun realizing my texture. I’ve had nappy moments here and there, but I totally embrace them.”

04
2004: Backstage Beauty

Here, Tanika Ray gets her curls straightened backstage at the Matthew Earnest show during Spring 2005 fashion week.

05
2005: Copper Queen

“Coloring relaxed hair is so destructive…you should choose one or the other. I’ve always preferred coloring to perming!”

06
2005: Queen Bee

“I’ve learned that you have to bow down and honor the queen (your hair), or else she’ll act a fool. Listen to your hair! If it’s dry, amp up the moisture.”

07
2006: Red Alert

At the 58th Annual Emmy Awards, Tanika sported her bright auburn curls set back from her forehead. Stunning!

08
2007: Curly Cues

“You 100 percent have to be the nutty professor with your hair products! Try different combinations until you find the right cocktail that works for your texture.”

09
2007: Shady Dame

At a ‘Rush Hour 3’ press event, Tanika swept her ringlets into a loose upsweep, anchoring them with her shades. Effortlessly fly.

10
2008: Curl Cocktail

“I’m in Utah filming HGTV’d, and it’s hot and dry. So for moisture, I slather on Aveda Be Curly ($19, aveda.com) when it’s wet, and add MorrocanOil Styling Cream to the ends.”

11
2008: Blonde Ambition

“Here’s the key to great curls: Brush your hair in the shower, add in your products, and then don’t touch it again till it’s totally dry. Then you fluff it up with your fingers!”

12
2009: Sexy Strands

At an Our World Live event, Tanika rocked a sexy blowout with curls. So wantonly sexy!

13
2009: High Times

“If you want your hair to stand up and have body, try a razor cut and Bumble and Bumble Styling Cream ($12.60, amazon.com). It gives your curls great rise!”

14
2009: Glamorous Life

At the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Tanika sported loosely tousled, soft curls defined by a curling iron. Impossibly glamorous.

15
2011: Strand Star

At a Wine & Design party, Tanika Ray turned heads with this full style with long, fluffy layers.
