Mariah Carey is all about ‘Dem Babies.’ (Even though they’re not really babies anymore!)

Carey is a woman of many accomplishments, including a formidable number of hits that topped the charts. But nothing brings the superstar more joy than being a mother. She welcomed twins Monroe and Moroccan in 2011 with ex-husband Nick Cannon.

“[Motherhood’s] an amazing thing I never thought I’d experience because I always said I don’t think I’d do it because my career was always my life,” she said as ‘Roc and ‘Roe were just toddlers at the time. Thankfully, she hasn’t had to stop making music to be a parent. In fact, the star has often had her twins by her side as she’s performed on stages around the world. Her kids are her biggest fans.

Now teenagers with their own interests and voice, Carey told Keke Palmer on her Baby, This is Keke Palmer podcast that they’re not as interested as they used to be in being their mom’s sidekicks, but that’s ok.

“Even when they want to do their own thing, even when it’s like, ‘I’m not going out with you to dah-dah-dah,’ they’re still everything to me.”

As for whether or not she’d want them to follow in her footsteps, or even their father’s footsteps, going after a career in the entertainment industry, the iconic Aries says she just wants to make sure whatever they do in life, they’re happy.

“I wouldn’t mind it,” Carey said. “I would always want what’s best for them in their heart and what they’re going to love doing.”
