R&B singer Chrisette Michele breaks down everything from her love of fashion to her July 5th ESSENCE Festival performance in New Orleans.
On what to expect from her ESSENCE Festival show...
"We are just going to come and have fun. I am bringing my band, the Rat Pack 3013, and backup singer, Ashley Smith. I have this really cool dress that I am very excited to wear."
On the ESSENCE Festival performers she wants to see...
"I am super excited to see Janelle Monáe and Solange. I already have outfits put aside to see their shows. And, of course, I want to see Beyoncé. Who doesn’t? There is a lot of girl power going on this year."
On her love of New Orleans...
"I love the people of New Orleans. They were one of the first who really embraced me and understood my free-spiritedness."
On her new album, 'Better'...
"I want my sisters to take away healing from Better. I know that so many of us have had emotional roller coasters in our lives, whether it’s with relationships or just life in general. I just hope Better can mend some broken hearts, so that the next album can be about being victorious."
On 'Fat Vegan,' her upcoming book...
"The book is about what I went through in the music industry with self-image, how uncomfortable it was for me, and how I bounced back. My self-esteem had come to a low and being vegan healed that. It also incorporates a ton of recipes I came up with on my journey."
On her current style...
"I love Giuseppe Zanotti. I’m a little bit obsessed. I also love Forever 21. I’m into Chanel accessories right now just because there’s this black-and-white trend that can go with any color. I am not afraid to be bold."
