Shortly after announcing she had cancer, Roberts began wearing wigs to cover up her hair loss from chemo.
Tired of wearing wigs when her hair fell out from chemotherapy, Robin rocked a bald and beautiful look and ‘worked’ the runway for Isaac Mizrahi’s Fall 2008 fashion show.
“You never prepare yourself to hear the words ‘You have cancer,’ says Roberts. “I was just numb.” Nearly a year after her diagnosis Roberts attended the
2008 Matrix Awards Luncheon at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City.
Roberts gets cancer screenings every six months. “It is inconvenient to get screened every six months but I feel great, my hair’s coming back so life is good,” she says. Here, she attends the 43rd annual CMA awards in Nashville, Tennessee.
Roberts describes herself as an optimist. Her bravery was honored at the ‘Inspiring Women’ luncheon held by the NBA.
Since her diagnosis, Roberts has been teaching the value of self exams and early detection. She spoke at the Women’s Conference in Long Beach, California earlier this year.
Though her cancer is no longer detectable, Roberts says she doesn’t use the words remission or cancer-free. “I still have to stay on top of it,” she says.
