If you've wanted to try box braids or Senegalese twists, now's your time to get creative. Not only will these style up your wow-factor, but they are great protective styles too and will help your hair retain length.

In the winter, we're more likely to throw our hair into an undo, ponytail or bun to protect our strands from winter's harsh temperatures. By the time spring rolls around, we've gained up to two inches of new growth.  While the extra length is much appreciated, start with a fresh trim or a new cut altogehter to get your tresses in tip-top shape.

Spring is the perfect time to brighten up your hair with highlights, lowlights or even an all-over dye job. If you're not ready to commit to permanent color, you can always add a few clip-in extensions in the shade of your choice, try henna, or opt for a semi-permanent rinse.

In the winter, it's easy to cuddle up at home with some hot tea, a good book and your Snuggie, but when the weather breaks, it's time to hit the streets. Find a natural hair meet-up in your area to mix and mingle with your fellow curlfriends. You're sure to find style inspiration, products to try or even make a new gal pal in the process.

In January, we're gung-ho about our resolutions. "I WILL wear protective styles for three months and I WILL rub my edges with castor oil three times a day! Yes I will!" If that sounds like you, make sure your intentions for 2013 have not fallen by the wayside come springtime. Be honest with yourself if you need to get back on track. It's not too late to make this year your most fabulous natural hair year yet.

Spring brings longer days, which means your hair will be exposed to more and more sun. Don't step out with dull, shine-free strands. Make sure your hair is glowing and radiant by keeping it healthy and hydrated. Lightweight pomades are great for glazing the hair with natural-looking sheen, too.

This season, vow to embrace what makes you and your hair naturally fabulous. It's certainly okay to be inspired by other natural sisters, but don't lose sight of your own unique texture, length and overall flair. If you dialed it back because of Old Man Winter, honey, now's the time to turn it up! No one can be you like you can, so work with what you got and don't shy away from being uniquely you.
