These runway looks are ESSENCE fashion editor-approved.

Altuzarra

I love this beach to street ensemble! The fun orange print gets you in the mood for sun rays and beach waves. The sheer cardigan is just right for the dual services of swimsuit cover up and cool summer night top. And that sexy slit is high enough to peek the interest of the cute matching bikini underneath! ––Reneise Francis

Kate Spade

This dress embodies prim and proper dressing in a very cool way. The clean cut of this Peter Pan collar, button-front frock paired with an earthy green, shade of teal and Kate Spade’s perfect accessories is beyond chic with minimal effort. ––Celia L. Smith, Fashion Editor

Richard Chai

From a robe to a fab trench, and from drawstring pants to a sexy slit skirt – I love Richard Chai’s metallic update on pajama dressing. ––Reneise Francis, Market Editor

5:31 Jerome

A worn out disco dress clearly means an epic party ensued. That’s exactly what the feel of 5:31 Jerome’s antique gold frock gave, and I love every bit of the detail. ––Celia L. Smith, Fashion Editor

Honor

How many ways I love you? Oh, let me count the ways. One: this under-appreciated shade of orange reminds us how chic this citrus shade can be. Two: I was boldly reminded just how stunning a dramatic skirt can be, even with the simplest top. And, three: All this fabulousness is pulled together with a flat. It doesn’t get any cooler than that. ––Celia L. Smith, Fashion Editor

Marissa Webb

Marissa Webb reminds us that with a little umph and great styling, classics can feel so fresh. This long silk shirtdress and linen, double-button skirt effortlessly cinched with a belt is a look that transcends seasons and occassions –– and I’m all about getting the wears out of my wardrobe.  ––Celia L. Smith, Fashion Editor

Jay Godfrey

Who isn’t a sucker for a statement suit? Whether you’re bold enought to rock them or just admiring from afar, the appreciation is still there. Thank you, Jay Godfrey! ––Celia L. Smith, Fashion Editor

Saunder

A chartreuse moto jacket? It didn’t take much thought to convince me to potentially move my favorite black one to the back of the closet. And, I know what you’re thinking, you could only rock this color in warm weather, but throw a little grey into the mix and it will balance it out for the breezier seasons. I’m all about making pieces seasonless.––Celia L. Smith

Novis

I couldn’t choose just, one. How could anyone? This primary color party ranging from frocks to cool separates to full-on gowns will inject a major dose of color into anyone’s wardrobe. I’ll take them all! ––Celia L. Smith

Nicole Miller

Now, this is an oldie but goodie. The wide black brush strokes on a white trench coat gives it an uber chic twist. It’s amazing no matter how many times I see a this silhouette, I never get tired. And the pop of color with the sunglasses gives the entire look a subtle but necessary contrast that I can appreciate. Nicole Miller has given me yet another piece with which I can adorn my overflowing closet. ––Jasmine Ross, Fashion Assistant

A Moi

With an overstuffed closet, these days I’m zeroing in on pieces that offer more than one ways to wear them. I’m completely sold on this is necessary edition –– a long-to-short coat, how could anyone resist? ––Celia L. Smith

Josie Natorie

Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m obsessed with transforming lingerie pieces into (appropriate) everyday wears. This lounge-esque look which Josie Natori perfects (obvi), is so chic and fluid I could fall asleep in it, wake up put on some heels and walk out the door–– in my dream world, of course. ––Celia L. Smith

Stella Nolasco

As the cut-out trend works into over time, the more subtle sister: laser cut, has taken over. I love the strategic placement of this style that shows a little while leaving a little to the imagination, plus this lilly white shade is downright demure! ––Celia L. Smith

Monique Lhuillier

A drop shoulder is the sexiest trend since crop tops, and I love this style even moreso because it’s romantic and flirty with major elegance. And, this shade of nude is flawless. ––Celia L. Smith

15
Mara Hoffman

Mara Hoffman’s entire collection is in living color! This sort of washed out variegated striped look caught my attention. So bold, but soft at the same time. Also, the modified Pharell Vivienne Westwood style hat made the look even cooler (and the cropped to, of course). ––Celia L. Smith

Custo Barcelona

Did I mention that laser cutting is a pretty big trend this season? We couldn’t be more sold on the idea in leather, and Custo Barcelona’s brown girl shade of nude with little pops of color is pretty fly. ––Celia L. Smith

17
Lacoste

I wouldn’t call denim a trend per se, since it is around season after season; however, we do recognize the peak in denim-on-denim combo’s. That said, I’m still obsessed with the way Lacoste has made this closet staple feel fresh and nostalgic at the same time. ––Celia L. Smith

Katie Galagher

Thank you Katie Galagher for chicest cure for rainy day blues! ––Celia L. Smith

Richard Chai

Just in case you’ve grown tired of the typical khaki trench coat. Richard Chai’s got the perfect solution in a shade of seafoam green. Dreamy, no? ––Celia L. Smith
