Fashion week is one of the busiest times of the year for models, designers and fashionista's alike, but what about the ladies behind the scenes? ESSENCE caught up with publicist Umindi Francis to see what New York Fashion Week is like from a publicist's point of view.

Saturday night (after my 6am call time for the Lisa Folawiyo show), I headed to the HFR 2014 Awards where I received their first ever 'Publicist of the Year Award.' For nearly a decade HFR has been shining a light and supporting talent in the black community.

The award was presented to me by Antoine Phillips, PR Director of Calvin who I have mentored since the start of his career and Brandice Henderson-Daniel CEO and Founder of HFR (Harlem’s Fashion Row). This was a tremendous honor for me.
