In 1961, the Supremes was formed, and with the help of Motown exec Berry Gordy, Diana Ross and The Supremes became the most successful American vocal group of the 1960s, and, after The Beatles, the second most successful group worldwide.

Ross went solo in 1969. She released her third album “Surrender” in 1971, which included the hit, “Remember Me.” That year, she hosted her first solo TV special, Diana!, featuring guest appearances by The Jackson 5.

In 1972, she won the title role in the Billie Holiday biopic “Lady Sings the Blues,” her performance earned her a Golden Globe and the soundtrack is one of the best selling albums of her career.

Her first child, Rhonda, was born in 1971 the same year she released her 2nd album “Everything is Everything.” Her next two daughters were born in 1972 and 1975, came when she released “Touch Me in the Morning,” and finished filming “Mahogany,” respectively.

Ross and Marvin Gaye released their duets album, “Diana & Marvin,” in 1973 which included the hit, “My Mistake (Was to Love You).” After Gaye’s passing she recorded the tribute “Missing You,” in 1985.

In 1978, Ross played Dorothy in the cult classic “The Wiz.” The film cast included Nipsey Russell, Ted Ross, and Michael Jackson. At the time, it was the most expensive film musical ever made.

In 1982, after forming her own production company she released the Warhol inspired album, “Silk Electric,” and the song, “Muscles,” produced by longtime friend and mentee Jackson became a Grammy nominated hit.

In 1985, “We Are the World” was recorded a charity single for African famine relief. The song became of the most monumental recordings in history, and Ross shared lead vocals with MJ.

Ross’ style is iconic. From her wildly beautiful untamed mane, to her one of kind fashion choices in 1986 and 1987 when hosting the AMA’s she set trends when changing after each commercial break.

Ross is the mother of five children. All five Rhonda, Tracee, Chudney, Evan, with the exception of her youngest Ross, have followed their mother’s footsteps, and are all in showbiz.

In 2007, Ross released “I Love You,” Ross’s first top-forty US pop album since 1984’s “Swept Away.” She is currently touring the US on her “More Today Than Yesterday: The Greatest Hits” tour.
