Her Leading Man: Reginald A. Wesley, 30, Associate Marketing Consultant
Wedding Date: October 6, 2012
Where and how did you meet your man?
I will never forget the day I met Reggie. It was 2002 and I was hanging out in Florida A&M University’s Student Government Office before a “Welcome Week” event. There was this really, really, really handsome guy sitting at my friend’s desk. We talked for a while, but to be honest, I didn’t know what he was talking about… I just kept staring at his smile.
Did you play hard to get?
While I thought that I was being discreet, Reggie would definitely say “No.” During that FAMU “Welcome Week” I did everything that I could to be in the same vicinity of Reggie. If he was passing out fliers… I was passing out fliers. We hit it off immediately.
Was it love at first sight?
I was smitten at first sight. Reggie had me at hello and his being the perfect gentleman stole my heart.
What’s the sweetest thing he’s ever done for you?
Reggie moved to Indianapolis first and wanted to purchase a home for us and our future family. I couldn’t make it to tour the potential options. Reggie created videos, picture files and neighborhood review reports for the top options. He really wanted my approval. When I finally made it to Indianapolis I was so excited with his selection. He picked the perfect home in the perfect neighborhood.
Best gift he ever got you?
Hands down – best gift from Reggie was in 2006, our English Bulldog – “Big Biscuit.” This is our little buddy and trial run at “parenting.” He adds so much to our lives and will definitely be in the wedding.
What do your friends say about him?
That he was always “the one” for me because he compliments the woman that I am.
How did he pop the question?
Reggie asked me to ride with him to run errands the morning of October 28th. I had been gone on an extensive work trip and was excited to spend some time together. So we are riding around Indianapolis in our bum clothes taking care of different odds and ins when Reggie pulls up to the Archivers Store. I WAS SO HAPPY because I LOVE all things scrap booking. I LOVE cool paper, stickers and funky glue. Reggie informs me that he brought me for a surprise date. He then dumps a bag of letters, cards, pictures and mementos on the table. There were tons of items that have been accumulated over our years of knowing each other.
I was amazed at the volume of it all and that he kept up with so many of our things. So we worked on our pages while laughing and nodding to the music. Reggie then handed me a brand new scrapbook and told me that he thinks we should start doing dates like this all the time. He then instructed me to check out this “brand new” book that he wanted us to buy for the future dates. When I opened the book, the first page was covered in pictures of us with the title “This is where our story begins…” I immediately started to cry. To my surprise there were more pages commemorating our life together. It was so amazing! The last page was decorated as a “wedding page” theme and Reggie said he looked forward to adding pictures to that page soon. That’s when Reggie got down on one knee and pulled out this incredible ring and asked me to marry him… I said a lot of random blurts and finally screamed, “YES, of course… hurry up and put the ring on!”
What was really going through your mind as he proposed?
OMG we are getting married… like for real, for real. Then… I can’t believe he was able to really surprise me (because I am so nosey) and I can’t believe he’s asking me in the store right now!
Fill in the Blank: When we’re (finally!) husband and wife, I can’t wait to__________.
Be able to sleep in the same bed when we visit my parents’ house. Seriously – we don’t even sit close when we are on their couch.
Who would you cast to play your future hubby in a movie?
Harry Belafonte because he is a trailblazer in his own right and his charisma is timeless.
