Hollywood chameleon Jamie Foxx has come a long way from his days as “In Living Color”’s Wanda. In the midst of his “Blame It” tour, he stars in the new action flick “Law Abiding Citizen.” Relive some of his best moments on the big screen.
Earlier this year, Foxx once again showed his versatility alongside Robert Downey, Jr. He mastered the role as a mentally ill musician who goes from a praised artist at Julliard to being homeless and alone in Los Angeles, with his talent in tow.
In “The Kingdom," which boasts a plot ripped from the headlines about terrorism and war in the Middle East, felt all the more real with Foxx as leading government agent Ronald Fleury. Plus, we loved seeing him as a devoted husband and father.
Remakes are hard to do, but director Michael Mann pulled off a worthy double take of the 80’s series “Miami Vice.” Of course, Foxx’s reinterpretation of Ricardo Tubbs made this ladies man sexier the second time around.
As Lt. Henry Purcell, Foxx’s small part in the sci-fi thriller “Stealth” lasted as long as the film did in theaters. Still, it gave him further credibility as an actor who could transition from funnyman to action hero.
Leading a troop of unstable infantrymen through Desert Storm, Foxx played against type as the stern Staff Sgt. Sykes. Years later, his “Jarhead” costar Jake Gyllenhaal would make a guest appearance in Foxx’s monster-hit video “Blame It.”
Foxx officially entered Hollywood’s inner circle when he matched Tom Cruise on the big screen in 2004. The thriller had us thinking as Max (Foxx) found himself in the middle of a murder plot, when he was just out for his usual cab-driving shift.
We’ve all got a cousin like Foxx’s character Alvin Sanders in this action comedy. He gets a second chance after being locked up, as cops use him for bait to lure a thief. Of course, it’s not long before he finds his way back to trouble, with a new baby, an angry girlfriend and the feds all wanting something from him.
