Believe it or not, a lot of women don’t know where their vagina is. When they use the word they’re referring to everything below their waist and between their legs, but your vagina isn’t the only thing down there. The part you can see is the vulva, which includes the outer labia, clitoris, and pereneum. Your vagina is the narrow passageway between the vulva and the bottom of your uterus – also known as the cervix.

We women may all have the same lady parts, but they’re not all created equal. Though all vaginas usually look alike on the inside, the outside look of the vulva can sometime vary. The inner and outer labia (you know those little parts that look sort of like butterfly wings?) can vary in length, size, and color.

Did you know the inside of your vagina is pleated? Yup, just like your living room curtains. When the walls need to open, say for a tampon, the sides separate and widen just the way pleats would. This is also how it accommodates a penis.

Believe it or not, even though it makes you feel so fresh and so clean, douching is never necessary. Your vagina is a clean freak and has it’s own natural cleaning process.
