A Style Star Is Born
About to go into a Catherine Malandrino show. The top fits but the bottoms didn’t, so I threw on some velvet leggings and called it an afternoon. This was my first outfit for day one.

Me and Max Azria, what a gorgeous spirit! Just lovely. His show was very artistic, almost like pictures on someone’s body with a tough edge.

It's Black, It's White
Luca Luca, this was the first show. I decided on that cherry lipstick in the car. Thank God for Duane Reade! This was a nice collection—very flirty and simple.

A Beautiful Mind
Me and Rachel Roy at her showcase. I think this was my third outfit change for that day. I absolutely love Rachel and her collection is gorgeous, very ’70s inspired—fluid and sexy. Great colors too!

Meet and Greet
This was my first time meeting Catherine Malandrino, who said she was a big fan also, with (my big sister in my head) Mary J. Blige. I love her! She always gives me nothing but love! I can see why Catherine and Mary work together; they both seem very much alike. Malandrino’s collection was based on tribes—fantastic colors and amazing accessories.

Kelis and I at the opening of hairstylist to the stars Dickey’s new salon Hair Rules. I’ve known Dickey for a few years. I met Kelis through him. She’s just herself and you gotta love that.

Seen on the Scene
My face says it all—that was the fourth outfit for the night. I was headed to Custo Barcelona’s runway show. To say it was packed was an understatement. It was a collection of beautiful colors, and I loved that 70 percent of his models were Black.

All for a Good Cause
Mary J. Blige, Russell Simmons and I at the Gucci/FFAWN party. Another great event endorsed by Mary J. Blige and Gucci. I support a number of great charities (Virgin Unite, DAA) and this is one benefit that is great because the proceeds go to community projects specifically for young girls from the Bronx and Yonkers (where Mary’s from). That’s a great way to give back.

Check Me Out
Stylin’ and profilin’ at the Paper magazine party! I remember being in the magazine when Emil Wilbekin (now Managing Editor at ESSENCE.com) gave me a shot as my first album was coming out, so that was a great way to say thanks to Paper and Emil for letting me “shine” a lil’ bit.

Here I am at the Paper magazine party striking a pose. My feet were about to be over at this point! We danced a lot! Great week! I am now tired! Signing off…see ya next year!
