Expert advice from British boot company ‘DUO’ on finding a flattering pair and keeping them in tip-top shape.
#1: Height Does Matter
"The height of the boot is important whenever you are considering a purchase depending on how long your legs are—and that is not the same as how tall you are, explains Jemma Davies," DUO’s Head of Design. "Have a look at your lower leg length, but over the knee boots look great on nearly all leg lengths, so don’t think you are too short for them."
#2: If The Boot Fits, Wear It
"If you buy real leather boots with a real leather lining they will be super comfy and last you years, but they do take a little wearing in," says Davies. "You always want to get the boots to fit you snuggly at first like a good pair of skinny jeans as the leather will give as it ages whereas suede styles will give more and mold to your leg shape from the very beginning."
#3: Polish & Protect
"Always use a good leather polish. Clear is the easiest to apply regularly, but if you are in a rush, waterproof spray is the best way to look after your leather, suede or nubuck. At DUO we recommend Woly, a German brand, that we stock that gives amazing results. Most ladies never think to protect their boots before the first wear but this is as important as doing it once they look worn as to make your investment in a great pair of boots last."
#4: Treat Then Repeat
"Leather is a natural product so resting your boots 24 hours before you wear them again is a great tip to keep your leather in good condition, Davies reveals. "If your boots get wet, the leather needs to dry naturally and completely before you wear them again or they will become misshaped and not fit properly."
#5: Shape Up
"Boot trees are a great way to store your boots in your wardrobe. They help the leg keep its shape in between wears and also save space so you can fit even more boots in your wardrobe!"
"A moto boot was the one classic boot missing from my closet. I love that it has enough heel to give a lift but is still short enough to run around the city. The ribbed detailing is also butter soft so it doesn't crease into my foot." –– Celia L. Smith, Fashion Editor
"These boots are bad-ass and cooler then your average riding boot. The best part is there was no 'breaking in' process, these were amazing from the moment I set foot in them. They also size precisely to fit your calf." ––Celia

"This boot has the softest suede and most comfortable heel. I also really love that I can change the height of this boot from over the knee to just grazing the knee by simply folding the top flap." ––Reneise
