ESSENCE Festival 2017 performer Teyana Taylor had quite the year in 2016 and now she's picking up right where she left off with an exciting new role on one of VH1's most highly-anticipated new series.

Set in the summer of 1990, The Breaks tells the story of an ambitious young Black woman and her friends as they navigate several roadblocks within in the New York Hip Hop scene to strategically work their way into the music industry. Viewers got their first look at the small screen gem when it premiered back in January of 2016 as a 2-hour short film, before later being picked up for a full series as a result of impressive debut ratings.

Joining a handful of other new cast members and the original cast, Taylor will have a recurring role on the show as a skeptical rising artist who has caught the attention of newly-minted Foray Management head hunter Nikki Jones (Afton Williamson). While little additional details on the wife and mother of one's character in the series are known, she recently shared a clip from an upcoming scene that already has fans in a frenzy.

Catch Teyana on VH1's The Breaks beginning this February and be sure to grab your tickets to see her light up the stage at the 2017 ESSENCE Festival this July.
