Soulful songstress India.Arie is one of a handful of artists who have always made it a point to include important social messaging in her music throughout the course of her career. Now she’s taking her efforts beyond the booth with a simple, but powerful, new merchandise line.
Released to coincide with the timely social messaging present in her latest single “Breathe,” all of the items in the collection bear the words “WORTHY” across the front. The phrase serves as a simplistic reiteration of the song’s message about cherishing and focusing on the pricelessness of Black lives at a time when the value of our communities are consistently being disregarded and taken for granted.

Inspired by the last words of Eric Garner and in solidarity with the Movement 4 Black Lives, Ms. Arie teamed up with ESSENCE to exclusively premiere the official music video for “Breathe” back in July of 2016. The video debut came just days before the 2-year-anniversary of the police killing of the Black father of father 5, who lost his life after being placed in an illegal chokehold by NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo.
