You can’t call yourself a world traveler if you haven’t set foot in Africa. From Nairobi to Cape Town, the entire continent is full of beautiful cities and landscapes for your inner nomad to explore.

As you plan your trip, these four Instagram accounts will give you both travel envy and inspiration. And for those traveling to ESSENCE Fest Durban in South Africa this year, these accounts will prove super handy.

“Foreign women can expect to get many marriage proposals from Senegalese men. Handle this with a sense of humour–and caution.”

That’s the kind of practical—and funny—advice you can expect from HIP Africa, a site that offers recommendations on the best places to visit in five of the most popular African countries. Although they currently only offer tips for Lagos, Accra, Nairobi, Dakar and Johannesburg, expect editions from Abidjan, Addis Ababa, Cape Town, Marrakesh and Maputo in the near future.

We all know that travelling Africa isn’t solely about visiting hip destinations and taking Instagram-able shots. It’s also about experiencing the minute day-to-day happenings of a vibrant city or quiet town. That’s the kind of experience Everyday Africa hopes to offer. The project started in 2012 with two photographers using iPhones, but now with just under 300k Instagram followers, the account has photographers from all over Africa.

Founded in 2014 by Cameroonian journalist Diane Audrey Ngako, Visiter l’Afrique brings together a large community of travelers who – through photographs and writing – share their experiences of the places they visit. But the site’s Instagram page is also drool worthy. With its over 83k followers, it’s easy to see why people are excited.
