Featuring the Ty Dolla $ign collaboration, “She Don’t,” the six-track piece is a musical thesis on how to navigate a good relationship gone bad. Mai quickly followed up with two more EPs beginning with Change, followed in early 2017 by Ready featuring the single “Boo’d Up”, which completed the DJ Mustard-produced trilogy.
The self-styled role model wants young girls, especially, to feel empowered by her music. “Even if you’re in the process of finding yourself, it’s important to know what you stand for,” declares Ella Mai. “My message is one that can touch a lot of people.”
