Groups of girlfriends, like this bunch from Atlanta, Georgia, flocked to Woldenberg Park to enjoy the music from artists like Cupid, Doug E. Fresh, the Stooges Brass Band and more.
R&B singer Tweet, who’s currently at work on her upcoming album entitled Soulfully Yours, came out to perform for her fans. “Out of everything in my life that’s consistent, besides God, people have been showing me love and support,” she said in appreciation of her fan base.
Family Reunion Day wouldn’t have been the same without tons of comfort food on-hand for guests to enjoy.
“If you want to be seen and look different, it’s about Suzette Art Couture,” said Suzette Hallmon, pictured with her husband, Kevin. Hallmon has been selling her hat designs at the ESSENCE Festival for 13 years.
Coke, the Festival’s presenting sponsor, helped guests stay cool with complimentary beverages.
“It’s awesome,” said Family Reunion Day Co-Host Carla Ferrell, who also lends her talent to The Steve Harvey Morning Show as a co-host. “The locals love it and it’s family fun for all.”
Guys donned their best gear and came out to the park in droves to join in on the fun.
Family Day was a highlight for many attending the Festival for the first time. Tamika Weathers of Montgomery, Alabama, (pictured in the red shirt with her friends), said, “I like that there’s music and things for kids to do.”
“My hats are one-of-a-kind,” said Shirley Wilfred, who has been a vendor at the Festival since 1995. “When I know someone appreciates a handmade hat, that’s my reward.”
The event proved to be the perfect time for families to reconnect.
Steve Harvey kept the crowd in good spirits as he always does at the Festival.
Kids were able to show off their creativity with coloring exercises throughout the day.
Festival presenting sponsor Coke always knows the key to bringing a smile to people’s faces.
Ladies flocked to Wilbourn Sisters Designs to snag fashionable finds. “We are well known all over the world because of the ESSENCE Festival,” said Janice Wilbourn. “We design to soothe the soul.”
