As we enter December, annually, Pantone reveals the color of the year. However, the brand has announced two for 2020 – Ultimate Grey and Illuminating. Citing that these two represent coming together and describing how this choice intends to connect to “deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the optimistic promise of a sunshine filled day,” a press statement read.
This yeas, was unprecedented due to a number of uncontrollable circumstances and arguably mostly everyone is looking for a better year to come. The yellow representing a jolt or spark and the grey symbolizing composure and stillness. While Vogue details the choice as, “really weird” this selection is seemingly aimed to bring a sense of bliss in a time period filled with consistent turmoil.
“The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer.” Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute exclaimed in a public statement. “As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to symbolize thoughts and ideas, many designers and brands are embracing the language of color to engage and connect.”
