Not since Jody Watley was on the scene in the 80’s have we seen so many fashionistas sporting their lingerie as outerwear. Stylishly baring your intimates has become a seasonal, stand-out trend. Lingerie inspired fashions dominated the runways for Spring 2010. While one may associate this risqué trend with pop stars or ladies of the night, this look need not be costumy or sleazy. Think a sensual hint of a gorgeous, delicate bra under a plunging neckline or a see-through top. Reach for a versatile, sculpting bustier or corset to test drive this sexy look. Just keep in mind that it’s about hinting what lies beneath, so ladies stay away from serving your goodies on a platter in outrageously revealing get ups (Unless, of course, that’s what you’re into). We turned to our favorite ladies of the red carpet to study the many ways you can keep this daring look tastefully chic and sexy.
Angela Simmons is unwaveringly cool in a great fitting bustier.
Cassie lets her pretty underpinnings show in a sheer bodice Louis Vuitton dress.
The lacy and ruffle confections of Thandie Newton’s Chanel dress are stunning.
Amber Rose’s champagne bustier paired with a knee length pencil skirt is a seductive, femme fatale take on the trend. Throw a tuxedo jacket nonchalantly over your shoulders to pull this winning look together.
Zoe Saldana, at the Prada book launch, wears a head-to-toe Miu Miu look from Fall 2009. The covered sleeves, legs and high-waisted skirt tones down the barring top. For us real gals, buttoning the blouse up to the bust is an easier way to rock this style.
Beyonce and her back-up dancers strike a pose in show-stopping bustiers and corsets.
A retro Katerina Graham channels Sandy from “Grease” in a bustier, high-waisted pants and a bubble gum pink pout.
Peek-a-boo bras are a sexy layering option that demand attention.
The supermodel’s printed bustier adds a soft silhouette to a structured skirt.
Eve looks every bit the movie star in a dramatic, wine colored corset dress at the premier of her movie. The lingerie-like details of this dress make this number smoking hot without being x-rated.
Another way to rock a bustier is to layer it over a t-shirt or a dress for an edgy slant on the lingerie as outwear trend.
While Chrystee Pharris’ corset is right on trend, the rest of her busy attire just doesn’t work for us. We wish she would have opted for a slimmer, shorter shirt under the corset and gotten rid of the random hair accessory. Don’t even get us started on those creatures on her feet.
Mariah Carey infuses some tough girl details, leather shrug and platform ankle boots, into her lingerie-inspired ensemble.
Melody Thornton’s cropped bustier adds an element of seduction to her menswear attire.
Alesha Dixon layers her printed tunic with a sheer bustier.
