Girl About Town: Kimberly Chandler
Zach Hyman/

I was invited to attend the Thirty-Second Annual Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon hosted by The Women’s Committee and Board of Trustees of the Central Park Conservancy. It was a true honor to receive an invitation as I am not a New Yorker by birth but by trade and the luncheon is considered to be one of the most high-profile social events of the season. Although the event is most noted for the elaborate hats and ensembles, the true highlight of the event is the millions of dollars raised each year. This year’s Hat Luncheon honored former Mayor R. Bloomberg for his involvement in the restoration and maintenance of Central Park and raised a staggering $3.5 million dollars.

As part of the preparation for the luncheon I worked with Satya Twena, Fashion Entrepreneur and Fine Milliner/Hatter in New York. Twena, owner of Makins Hat Factory, creates custom pieces in one of Manhattan’s last factories to make hand made hats. I, like most women, still love to play dress up and this event gave me the perfect opportunity!
