This NYFW Makeup Look Is Actually Wearable and Perfect For Valentine's Day

Lipstick on the eyelid? Yes, it actually looks good!
This NYFW Makeup Look Is Actually Wearable and Perfect For Valentine’s Day
By Andrea Jordan · Updated October 26, 2020
When we trek backstage during NYFW, the truth is, we never know what we’re going to find. From barely there makeup to bleached brows and faces filled with Swarovski crystals, it’s almost like opening a Pandora’s box with each show. Once in a while, we discover a runway look that’s actually wearable for the everyday woman and La Perla’s Fall 2017 Ready-To-Wear collection fits the bill. First let’s talk about this brown girl-friendly burgundy eye–it’s breathtaking!  Maybelline New York makeup artist, Erin Parsons, was inspired by the British gardens that would also influence the runway set. First, he started with a lip liner. Yes, a lip liner. Fashion Week is where practicality goes out the window and it’s 100% acceptable when the end result is pure beauty. If you’re recreating this look IRL, we recommend simply finding shadows in similar hues! But, if you’re a true beauty risk taker, here’s what really went down backstage: Take a lip liner in the plum, burgundy or wine family and apply it in the crease of the eye. Blend onto the lid and underneath the lash line for a smoked out look. And since we used the lip liner, we might as well use the lipstick, right? Parsons applied Color Sensational Loaded Bold Lipsick in Midnight Merlot to the center of the eyelid and layered shimmering plum shades on the lid and inner corner of the eye. Editor tip: Start applying shimmery shadows to the inner corner of your eye…now. It’s a total eye popper and really adds depth to your look.

Next, line your lids and apply mascara to the lashes for an added “wow” factor. After all, you can’t have a smokey eye without fabulous lashes. Here’s a $7 option we know you’ll love: Whether Valentine’s Day is filled with sweet nothings from bae or you’re rocking out with girlfriends, this sexy look will definitely turn heads.
