If you haven’t made your way to the ESSENCE Fashion House you’re missing out on the industries biggest changemakers, sharing their personal journey on how they reached success.

Friday at Gallier Hall, Itaysha Jordan who was responsible for our latest ESSENCE covers with Teyana Taylor, Iman, and Ciara had an intimate conversation with Dana Scruggs, the first Black person ever to shoot a Rolling Stone magazine cover, which happened to be of rapper Travis Scott.

“I don’t want to ever feel like I made it,” said Scruggs when she responded to an attendee asking “when do you feel like you’ve made it.”

Scruggs and Jordan have shared similar journeys rising to the top of their creative peak. By being Black women in the photography industry, dominated by white men, the two have created a lane for themselves, which didn’t come easy.

“I have always taken the approach of wanting to create timeless images that last,” Scruggs said as the panel concluded.
