Have you ever been just obsessed with a color? No matter how many pieces of clothing you own, you just need one more in that color. I’m not sure if it is the gloomy winter weather, or if this color just gives me life, but right now yellow is a color taking over my closet.
I used to believe that as a dark-skinned girl I couldn’t wear yellow. Growing up I felt like I was too dark — and as I got older I started to think I was too large to wear such a bright color. It always felt like it wasn’t appropriate for me to wear. Then I realized how great it looks on darker skin tones.
It wasn’t my skin tone or my curves preventing me from wearing the bright hue — I was just afraid to shine. Now that fear is gone. Thank goodness!
As a wardrobe stylist, I have to remind myself that there are other colors in the rainbow. I love to mix-and-match colors that are traditionally not paired with the sunny shade. I love to put one great yellow dress with rose gold accessories, or pair a simple navy outfit with a great yellow shoe. I have also been known to rock a bold pink or a Kelly green with yellow accessories.

Finding the perfect yellow for your skin tone, can be a challenge. I recommend trying different options, to find what is right for you.
Here are some of my favorite yellow pieces:
People often wear red when they want to look powerful. However ,I challenge you to rock this dress for your next important meeting. Add a blazer and pumps and you are “boardroom ready”.
I do love a bold bracelet and this beaded bracelet from Uganda is new to my personal collection but I can’t wait to wear it to add color to something simple.
I love a cropped pant and these are a statement maker. Add a chambray shirt and booties to these pants, and head out to a concert or a show.
If you are not ready to wear yellow head to toe, then take a couple baby steps. One of my go-to accessories is a roll-down clutch. Carry it to the office, to the club or meeting the girls for brunch.
Pairing heels and skinny jeans gives your look a feminine touch. Wear these Gucci shoes with a lace top, at the office.
Baby yellow nails a subtle and usher in the look of spring. Add this sunny hue to your finger tips and positivity will literally radiate from your fingertips.
I love the Geneva dress because it is so versatile. To look weekend ready, I grab this dress and pair it with my Converse All Stars and a denim jacket.
Who says work must be drab? I think this yellow blazer is a spring/summer must. Pair this blazer with a dress or with a skirt/top combo.
Do you have plans for a date night or girls night out. A jumpsuit is always a great look. Rock this jumpsuit out with a belt and bold shoe and you will turn heads.
