
ESSENCE: You’ve been in business for ten years. What’s the key to your longevity and success?
Byron and Dexter Peart: We wanted to build a brand that would last. Instead of focusing on passing trends, we create quality essentials with a consistent design philosophy. Even as we branch out into new product categories, the idea of necessity is central to the identity of the brand.
ESSENCE: Describe the Want Les Essentiels customer?
The Pearts: Our goal has always been to serve the needs of people in motion, and all our styles are devised with the modern traveler in mind. For example, the Want woman is strong, versatile and accomplished.
ESSENCE: Where is your favorite place in the world to travel to?
The Pearts: Tokyo—for both of us. We love to immerse ourselves in the city’s culture. We can often be spotted walking the streets of Aoyama, enjoying the view of the Imperial Palace from the Palace Hotel or perusing the wonderful collection of books from around the world at the Tsutaya book-store in Daikanyama.
