Has Kanye West‘s recent pivot to Christianity made him a hypocrite?

During an episode of The Daily Show, host Trevor Noah blasted the rapper for his recent criticism of hip-hop culture.

West’s recent rambling interview with radio host Big Boy tackled a number of topics, including the factually incorrect assumption that Plan B and emergency contraception—which helps prevents pregnancy—are the same as abortion. West also took shots at hip-hop culture and the lavish lifestyle it presents.

Noah was quick to call out West during a moment on The Daily Show, saying, “I was watching that, and I was like, are you sh–ting me? Like, of all people. I’m not saying everything he’s saying is wrong, but you are gonna say it? You, as Kanye West, are gonna talk s–t about other rappers talking about buying ‘foreign?'”

“You, as Kanye West? ‘I know Spike Lee’s gonna kill me, but let me finish, I’d rather buy 80 gold chains and go ign’ant,'” Noah added, pointing to West’s own lyrics. “That Kanye West? Like, are you serious? ‘You’re such a f–ing ho, I love it?’ That Kanye West is gonna talk s–t about rappers f–ing b—hes?'”

Noah also slammed West’s comments about Black voters being brainwashed to vote Democrat, “You’re saying that 70, 80, 90% of Black people who are voting Democrat, their brainwashed? So you’re saying you’re the only person who’s enlightened, and all these Black people are stupidly following this Democratic-victim?”

“The fact that these people are brainwashed, or the fact that, in America, you have to vote for the system that gives you the best chance? You only have two choices, and that does make it weird, but you only have two choices, and if you are a Black person you go, well, I’m going to vote for the choice that gives me the best chance of success.”

West, a noted Trump supporter, recently stated that his support for the president is “God’s practical joke to all liberals.”
