On Sunday Lupita Nyong’o teased us with the first glimpse of her new film, Queen of Katwe, a true story based on Tim Crother’s book. In it, Nyong’o plays the mother of Phiona Mutesi, a young chess prodigy living in rural Uganda.
Casually wishing us a Happy Mother’s Day Nyong’o captioned her Instagram post,
“It is my absolute joy to share the very first look of my new film, The #QueenOfKatwe!! This movie is so close to my heart. It tells the story of Phiona Mutesi, who proves to us that daring to dream is worth it. I play her mother! Happy Mother’s Day! @disneystudios”
According to EW, Queen of Katwe is directed by Mira Nair, with William Wheeler as the screenwriter. The biographical film is set for limited release on September 23rd.
